Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Wimbledon match.
Fourteenth seed Andrey Rublev begins his Wimbledon campaign against world No. 60 Laslo Djere, heading into the match as the clear favourite, backed by a dominant 4-0 head-to-head record against the Serbian.
Andrey Rublev
Rublev has opted for a light schedule ahead of the grass-court major, featuring in just one warm-up tournament — the ATP 500 event in Halle. There, he got past Sebastian Ofner (6:3, 6:4), but was edged out by Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a tight three-setter decided on a final-set tiebreak (3:6, 7:6, 6:7). While it wasn’t the deepest run, Rublev showed competitive form and decent rhythm on grass.
Laslo Djere
Djere, by contrast, has tested himself more broadly on the surface, playing three grass tournaments. His best result came in Mallorca, where he won his opener against Bu Yunchaokete (6:4, 6:4), who sits slightly lower in the rankings at No. 69. But against the in-form Gabriel Diallo (No. 41), Djere came up short in a three-set battle (3:6, 6:3, 3:6).
Andrey Rublev vs Laslo Djere Prediction
Most of their previous meetings took place in 2022, with their latest clash coming in the first round of Roland Garros 2023, where Rublev prevailed in four sets. The Russian’s forehand remains the more decisive weapon, while Djere might look to counter through his backhand. Expect Rublev to control proceedings and come through with a comfortable margin.
