Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Hamburg match.
Andrey Rublev has reached the quarter-finals of the ATP event in Hamburg, where he will face Luciano Darderi for the first time in his career. Although considered the favourite, Rublev is not currently at his best and struggled in the previous round against an opponent ranked outside the top 300, dropping serve in both sets. Given his current form, even a less experienced but determined opponent could present a serious test.
Andrey Rublev
Andrey Rublev is no stranger to the Hamburg tournament, having lifted the trophy here in 2020 — his first ATP 500 title. He now holds six titles at this level and is objectively a class above Luciano Darderi. However, his 2025 campaign has been inconsistent: he has dropped at least one set in seven of his eleven matches against top-50 players. In fact, this is the first time this year he has made it past the second round on clay. In each of his previous four clay-court events, Rublev was eliminated after just two matches.
Luciano Darderi
Luciano Darderi is enjoying one of the standout seasons of his career. This spring, he captured ATP titles in Marrakesh and Córdoba. Luciano Darderi is a classic clay-court specialist, featuring a heavy forehand and an effective first serve, winning 68% of points behind it. He has claimed victory in 16 of his 25 clay-court matches in 2025, with notable wins over Tallon Griekspoor and Miomir Kecmanović. In Hamburg, he defeated Brandon Nakashima in three sets, hitting six aces along the way.
Andrey Rublev vs Luciano Darderi Prediction
Andrey Rublev has yet to find consistent form, while Luciano Darderi is confident on clay and unafraid to take on top-tier opponents. Darderi has the tools to take a set off Andrey Rublev and is unlikely to be beaten comfortably in terms of games.
