Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Rome match.
There is no shortage of local players at major tournaments. Many receive wild cards, but Lisa Pigato was not among them. She must go through the qualification rounds. However, that task becomes significantly more difficult when you draw the second seed in the opening round.
Anna Blinkova
Anna Blinkova would certainly prefer to be the second seed in the main draw, but for now, she has to settle for this kind of privilege. Even her current ranking of 67 does not guarantee direct entry into the first round, as nearly everyone is fit and eager to play—something that is, in a way, encouraging. Realistically, this is a strong ranking for the Russian, in fact, her best of the season. Her nine-place climb was made possible by reaching the second round in Madrid, where she only lost to Aryna Sabalenka (3:6, 4:6). A respectable showing.
Lisa Pigato
Lisa Pigato is 21 years old and currently not ranked in the top 100, or even the top 500. At present, she sits at No. 548, although she did climb as high as No. 318 last season. In 2025, she has yet to appear in WTA-level tournaments, having had to enter even ITF-level events. Her season only began in February due to recovery from an injury sustained last year, which required minor surgery.
Anna Blinkova vs Lisa Pigato Prediction
Neither Lisa Pigato nor the home crowd are harbouring high hopes. Anna Blinkova is expected to ease past Lisa Pigato and should comfortably cover a respectable handicap.
