Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Wimbledon match.
Stojanovic (WTA No. 172) impressed during Wimbledon qualifying, knocking out opponents ranked significantly higher. However, maintaining that level across the main draw will be a major challenge, especially with Kalinskaya — a top-40 player — awaiting in the first round.
Anna Kalinskaya
The Russian hasn’t had time to find her form on grass. She’s played just one match on the surface this season, and it was a disappointing one — losing to No. 109 Ella Seidel (6:4, 4:6, 6:7) and failing to qualify for Berlin. Kalinskaya struggled with the fast bounce, allowing her opponent to fire down 14 aces and win 57% of points on serve.
Nina Stojanovic
Stojanovic, meanwhile, beat Joanna Garland (No. 142), Rebeka Masarova (No. 100), and Susan Bandecchi (No. 260) in qualifying. While none of them are elite opponents, the Serbian has had time to adjust to the surface — and that could prove decisive. She visibly improved with each match: in the final round, she hit just 11 unforced errors and won 59% of points on serve.
Anna Kalinskaya vs Nina Stojanovic Prediction
Kalinskaya is the clear favourite, but this could be one of the early upsets of the tournament. A lack of match practice may cost the Russian, and Stojanovic will have enough chances to make it competitive.
