Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Volleyball World Championship match.
Argentina
Argentina’s Nations League campaign was mixed, finishing only 12th with an even split of wins and losses. However, their friendly results revealed the team’s potential: they managed victories over both Brazil and Poland — two of the world’s top three sides, albeit not at full strength. The team leans heavily on its seasoned core, particularly setter Luciano De Cecco, who was voted the best in his position in the 2023/24 Champions League. Consistency remains an issue, though — in 17 of 22 matches this year, Argentina have dropped at least one set.
Finland
Finland have been one of the breakout stories of the season, winning the Golden European League after beating the Czech Republic in the final. The squad is young, well-drilled and full of potential. Middle blocker Severi Savonsalmi, who plays in the German Bundesliga, stands out as a key figure. Finland have taken at least one set in 19 consecutive matches, and in seven previous head-to-heads with Argentina they have managed it on six occasions.
Argentina vs Finland Prediction
Finland look like a side capable of troubling the favourites. Argentina are far from watertight, while the Finns arrive motivated and cohesive. Expect the underdogs to claim at least one set.
