Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Copa América Femenina match.
Argentina secured a win in their Copa América opener, though surprisingly struggled for long stretches against Uruguay. Will Chile pose a stiffer challenge?
Argentina (women)
They not only found it difficult to impose themselves but also managed to score just once — a surprising outcome given their previous run of four consecutive wins, each featuring at least three goals against Uruguay. It's worth remembering, however, that in a friendly last year, Uruguay defeated them (2:0). In that match, the Uruguayans kept the pressure at bay for most of the game before conceding after the 75th minute, followed by a second yellow card and subsequent dismissal. Even with numerical superiority and increased pressure, Argentina failed to add to the scoreline.
Chile (women)
Chile had a bye in the second round and began their tournament with a comprehensive 3:0 win over Peru. That result came as no surprise, given that Peru were the lowest-ranked side in the previous Copa América, finishing without a single point and conceding 18 goals. Chile are maintaining strong form, currently on a four-match winning run, with the previous three victories recorded in friendly matches. Their last defeat came in a 1:0 friendly loss to Haiti.
Argentina (women) vs Chile (women) Prediction
These two sides last met in a friendly back in late February. With no competitive stakes, the match was about pride alone. Argentina were unable to break through their neighbours’ defence, and the contest ended in a goalless draw. Both squads are well-organised at the back, and another low-scoring match appears likely.
