Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women’s Copa América match.
Peru has just one group-stage game remaining, but their chances of progressing have already been extinguished. Their final fixture pits them against a formidable opponent in the shape of Argentina, making even a consolation result highly improbable.
Argentina (women)
So far, Argentina have registered only narrow wins. This may reflect a deliberate tactical setup. Against clearly weaker Uruguay, the Argentinians struggled with accuracy and managed only three shots on target. A tougher challenge was anticipated against Chile, who are similarly placed in the global rankings. That encounter ended in a hard-fought 2:1 win. Argentina had to come from behind after conceding in the 11th minute, with central defender Aldana Cometti netting the decisive goal in the 90th minute.
Peru (women)
It seems unlikely that Argentina will be content with a narrow win against Peru. Chile defeated them (3:0), and across their last ten matches—regardless of competition—Peru have managed just three victories. Among their seven defeats during that stretch, only three were by a one-goal margin.
Argentina (women) vs Peru (women) Prediction
A close scoreline appears unlikely here. Over the past six years, Argentina have met Peru three times and recorded comprehensive wins each time: 3:0, 4:0, and similar scorelines can be expected again.
