Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
The headline fixture of Sunday, and arguably the entire matchweek, is the London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea. Beyond the traditional rivalry, this clash carries huge implications for the race to secure Champions League qualification.
Arsenal
Arsenal are in a stronger position to clinch a top-four spot, currently sitting second in the table. They hold an eight-point cushion over Manchester City and are six points clear of Chelsea. The team advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals midweek after a 2:2 draw against PSV Eindhoven at the Emirates—a comfortable result following their emphatic 7:1 victory in Eindhoven. Key players were rested ahead of this crucial league fixture, with Martin Ødegaard, Jurriën Timber, and Leandro Trossard only introduced in the second half. There was also a positive sign in Gabriel Martinelli’s continued reintegration into the squad, making consecutive substitute appearances. He could be in contention to start against Chelsea.
Chelsea
Chelsea are also seeing key players return, which should ease some of their recent struggles. Wesley Fofana is not registered for the Europa Conference League but played 73 minutes against Leicester City—his first action after a long-term injury. His return has been eagerly awaited all winter. Chelsea secured their place in the Conference League quarter-finals on Thursday. Having already gained a one-goal advantage in the away leg, they rotated heavily at Stamford Bridge, with Marc Cucurella, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, and Reece James only appearing after the break. The lone goal in the second leg came from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the 55th minute.
Arsenal vs Chelsea Prediction
Both teams will field their strongest possible line-ups, given the significance of this fixture. However, Arsenal’s defensive stability has been less affected by injuries in recent months, giving them a slight edge. While Chelsea have improved, Arsenal remain difficult to beat at the Emirates. Expect a fiercely contested battle with a controlled number of goals.
