Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Geneva match.
Hubert Hurkacz arrives in Geneva off the back of a strong showing in Rome and looks highly motivated ahead of his opening match. With only a short window before Roland Garros, maintaining rhythm and confidence is key for the Polish player. Arthur Cazaux, by contrast, is only just returning to competitive action and appears far from full fitness.
Arthur Cazaux
The Frenchman has experienced significant setbacks this season. After competing in Indian Wells, he was forced to take time off due to an elbow ligament injury that disrupted his serve. Geneva marks Arthur Cazaux's return to the ATP Tour. Over the past two months, he has not played a single match, and before his break, he had lost four of his previous six encounters. The switch to clay does not offer much of an edge — this will be his first match on the slower surface in 2025, and over the past two years, he has managed to win just 50% of his clay-court matches (11 out of 22).
Hubert Hurkacz
The Pole’s results can be inconsistent, but his campaign in Rome was encouraging. He recorded victories over three top-50 opponents — Jakub Mensik, Marcos Giron, and Pedro Martínez Portero — before falling to Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals. Notably, Hubert Hurkacz has been highly dependable when facing players ranked outside the top 100, stringing together 14 consecutive wins. He has already defeated Arthur Cazaux once, at last year’s Australian Open (7:6, 7:6, 6:4).
Arthur Cazaux vs Hubert Hurkacz Prediction
Hubert Hurkacz is widely expected to wrap this up in straight sets, making the most of his serve and calmness in extended exchanges. Arthur Cazaux, who currently sits at world number 116, lacks the match sharpness to mount a challenge against a player of Hurkacz's level.
