Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Miami match.
Arthur Fils stands on the brink of reaching his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 semi-final. After a spirited run to the quarter-finals in Indian Wells — where he pushed Daniil Medvedev in a tight encounter — the Frenchman has gone one step further in Miami, taking out World No. 2 Alexander Zverev and the powerful Frances Tiafoe along the way. Jakub Mensik, meanwhile, has played fewer matches in Florida, and while that means fresher legs, it could cost him in terms of rhythm.
Arthur Fils
Arthur is having his second successful tournament in a row. He reached the quarter-finals in Indian Wells, and overall, he has achieved six wins in seven matches on American courts. His performance against Alexander Zverev in the last round (3:6, 6:3, 6:4) was particularly impressive: 25 winners to Zverev’s 14, dominant service games (won 12 of 14), and three breaks of serve. Notably, Fils tends to go the distance — four of his six recent matches in the US have gone to a deciding set.
Jakub Mensik
Mensik, ranked 68th, has enjoyed his own fine run. He’s dropped just one set in Miami — in his opening round against Roberto Bautista Agut (6:4, 3:6, 6:1). Since then, he’s ousted World No. 7 Jack Draper in two tie-breaks and then powered past Roman Safiullin in straight sets. He was handed a walkover in the round of 16, giving him some extra rest. So far, Mensik has delivered 59 aces in three matches and has played at least 20 games in each.
Arthur Fils vs Jakub Mensik Prediction
Fils is in excellent form right now, showing both strong physical conditioning and mental resilience. Mensik comes into the match well-rested, but the break might affect his match sharpness, although he’s unlikely to give up easily. Therefore, a lengthy match with a high game total seems probable. They are battling for a spot in the semi-final, and a deciding set is a distinct possibility, although they could reach a high game count even in two sets.
