Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA US Open match.
Aryna Sabalenka
Sabalenka has delivered another powerhouse season, winning 31 matches on hard courts with just five defeats (86%). Across her career, she’s lifted three Grand Slam trophies and reached seven finals, but 2025 has been troubling when it comes to the finishing line — she’s lost four of her six finals, including both Slam deciders. The psychological weight of these occasions often prevents her from converting dominance into silverware. Against top-10 opposition, Sabalenka’s matches tend to be long, high-intensity battles. Six of her last seven meetings with elite rivals have gone over 21.5 games.
Amanda Anisimova
Anisimova’s campaign has been nothing short of spectacular. She’s collected titles at WTA 250 events in Adelaide and Montpellier, added a Masters 1000 crown, and broken into the world’s top five. On hard courts this season she holds a 19-7 record (73%), and more importantly, she’s found consistency in the biggest moments. Amanda has won 12 of her last 13 Grand Slam matches, including landmark victories in New York over Iga Świątek (6:4, 6:3) and Naomi Osaka (6:7, 7:6, 6:3). Those results underlined both her resilience and her ability to raise her level against the very best.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Amanda Anisimova Prediction
While Sabalenka is the rightful favourite as world No.1, the head-to-head favours Anisimova — she leads 6-3. Add in her confidence-boosting wins over Świątek and Osaka, and the American has every reason to believe she can spring another upset on home soil.
