Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Wimbledon match.
Aryna Sabalenka is aiming to reach her fourth consecutive Grand Slam final, though she is yet to make it this far at Wimbledon. The world No. 1 had to dig deep in a gruelling three-set battle against Laura Siegemund. Her next opponent, Amanda Anisimova, has historically posed significant challenges for her and now enters her eighth career Grand Slam semi-final.
Aryna Sabalenka
Aryna Sabalenka has looked strong through most of the tournament, dispatching Marie Bouzkova, Emma Raducanu, and Elise Mertens in straight sets, and rallying from behind to defeat Laura Siegemund. This marks her third consecutive semi-final appearance at Wimbledon. However, in four of her five matches at this tournament, her opponents have managed to claim at least ten games. Moreover, matchups with Amanda Anisimova have consistently proven difficult; in six of their eight previous meetings, the American has taken at least one set.
Amanda Anisimova
Amanda Anisimova is in superb form. With nine wins in her last ten Wimbledon matches and an imminent return to the world’s top 10, she has firmly re-established herself. She has also claimed victory in five of her six matches this season against top-10 ranked players. Although Anisimova fell to Aryna Sabalenka in the Round of 16 at Roland-Garros earlier this year, she has won at least eleven games in six of their eight encounters.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Amanda Anisimova Prediction
Aryna Sabalenka rarely cruises to comfortable wins at Wimbledon, and Amanda Anisimova has consistently managed to keep matches competitive against the world No. 1. In four of Sabalenka’s last five matches, her winning margin has not exceeded four games. That trend is expected to continue.
