Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA 1000 Miami Open match.
Danielle Collins faces another massive hurdle in her quest to defend her Miami Open title — Aryna Sabalenka, a player she has never beaten in six attempts. The Belarusian is thriving on hard courts in 2025 and arrives in dominant form, winning 18 of 22 matches on this surface since the start of the year.
Aryna Sabalenka
Sabalenka has looked unstoppable on the American swing so far. In Indian Wells, she dismantled Liudmila Samsonova (6:2, 6:3) and Madison Keys (6:0, 6:1), winning in straight sets in five of her last six matches. In 2025, she boasts 16 hard-court wins, 14 of which have come in straight sets. In Miami, she picked up right where she left off — brushing aside Viktoriya Tomova (6:3, 6:0) and taking a quick 6:1 set against Elena-Gabriela Ruse before the Romanian retired.
Danielle Collins
The American has fought her way past Sorana Cîrstea (6:4, 7:6) and Rebeka Masarova (6:4, 3:6, 6:3), but neither win came easily. Collins continues to struggle with her first-serve consistency, landing under 54% in four of her last five matches. She’s already suffered straight-set losses this season to top-tier players like Ons Jabeur, Madison Keys, and Elina Svitolina — and her 0–6 head-to-head record against Sabalenka hardly inspires confidence.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Danielle Collins Prediction
Collins has historically struggled to cope with Sabalenka’s pace and power, and her current issues on serve won’t help her cause. Sabalenka is dictating rallies, playing with confidence, and not letting opponents settle into matches. Given the pattern of their previous meetings and the Belarusian’s current form, it’s hard to see anything other than another straight-sets win for Sabalenka.
