Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Ligue 1 match.
Olympique Lyonnais are still reeling from their dramatic Europa League quarter-final exit — a result that not only bruised morale but also saw them lose ground in the race for Champions League qualification. AS Monaco, meanwhile, remain in contention for second place, but their persistent defensive lapses could prove costly down the stretch.
AS Monaco
Following their 3:1 win over relegation-threatened Saint-Étienne, Monaco have opened up a four-point gap over Olympique Lyonnais in the table. Yet even against a modest opponent, they conceded 1.17 xG — a reflection of season-long frailties at the back. They've shipped 37 goals from 35.49 xGA — a clear sign of instability in defence. With Aleksandr Golovin and Kasper Dolberg both sidelined, Monaco’s midfield and attacking balance have also suffered. The Danish forward not only added goals but played a key role in pressing and aerial duels.
Olympique Lyonnais
Since the March international break, Olympique Lyonnais have found another gear. They have scored 13 goals in six Ligue 1 outings — the second-best tally in the division during that span. The last time Olympique Lyonnais failed to score was back in January under Pierre Sage, in a 0:0 away draw against Fenerbahçe. With Champions League hopes still alive, they will be determined to make the most of this head-to-head clash — especially with one or more top-six sides likely to slip before season’s end.
AS Monaco vs Olympique Lyonnais Prediction
Recent history favours the visitors: Olympique Lyonnais have won three of the last four meetings between the sides, netting seven goals in the process. Given their attacking form and high motivation, backing Olympique Lyonnais to score at least once feels a strong call.
