Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Aston Villa played an extra match this Wednesday to free up space in Liverpool’s schedule for the League Cup final. The hosts were rewarded with a draw in return. Chelsea, while more manageable than Liverpool, still sit above the Birmingham side in sixth place.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa themselves are in ninth, even with the extra game played, trailing Chelsea by four points. They are currently in a patchy run of form. Before the Liverpool game, they drew with Ipswich Town (1:1), failing to capitalise on a numerical advantage despite playing with an extra man for over half the match. Notably, Aston Villa have conceded in each of their last eight matches across all competitions, though they’ve also scored in six of those games.
Chelsea
Chelsea, on the other hand, have scored in five of their last six matches. The only exception was their most recent game, a 3:0 loss to Brighton. Interestingly, all six of those matches saw over 2.5 goals. However, we’d be cautious about backing over 2.5 goals in this upcoming fixture, as only half of Aston Villa’s last eight matches have gone over that mark.
Aston Villa vs Chelsea Prediction
The last three head-to-head meetings between these sides have been high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals landing in each: two Chelsea wins (3:1 and 3:0) and a 2:2 draw. That said, as mentioned earlier, tread carefully with this bet. Our pick is both teams to score.
