Free-scoring Atalanta, last season’s Europa League champions, are targeting another trophy this campaign. Only two hurdles remain before a second consecutive Coppa Italia final, with the first coming in a home clash against Bologna—who have just lost key defender Stefan Posch to Atalanta.

At the end of the winter transfer window, Atalanta bolstered their squad depth—already stretched by injuries—by signing Daniel Maldini and Stefan Posch. Since their defeat to Napoli (2:3), the Bergamo side have netted 10 goals in their last four matches (two wins, two draws). Last week, they showed attacking strength even without Ademola Lookman, generating a combined 4.35 xG in matches against Barcelona (2:2) and Torino (1:1).
Bologna
Bologna’s seven-match unbeaten run may not fully reflect their current state. They failed to reach the Champions League knockout stage, and despite a win over Como (2:0), they remain outside the European qualification spots in Serie A—largely because their direct rivals have also been picking up points. Atalanta’s wildcard in this cup clash could be Gianluca Scamacca, who has recovered from a knee injury and may provide a boost off the bench. Bologna’s defensive frailties away from home will likely cost them in Bergamo.
