Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Copa del Rey match.
This is the defining game of Atlético Madrid’s season — their only realistic shot at silverware, with La Liga now nine points out of reach. Barcelona, by contrast, are flying and remain in contention for a historic treble, with the Copa del Rey, La Liga and Champions League all in sight. Victory in Madrid would seal their place in the final and fuel momentum heading into the season’s business end. After the 4:4 thriller in the first leg, another goal-laden contest is on the cards.
Atlético Madrid
Atlético Madrid are going through a rough patch — knocked out of the Champions League and with just one point from their last three league outings. Yet, despite their struggles, Atlético Madrid have found the net in 15 straight matches. Defensive issues, however, are mounting: nine goals conceded in their last five games. They’ve also been involved in open affairs lately — four of their last five matches featured at least four goals.
Barcelona
Barcelona, on the other hand, are in devastating form. They have won six on the bounce across all competitions, scoring 19 and conceding just four. Five of those wins included at least three goals from the Catalans. In the Copa del Rey alone, they’ve scored 18 goals in four matches, with Ferran Torres emerging as the main man in attack with four strikes. Notably, every cup tie so far has cleared the over 3.5 goals line.
Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona Prediction
Barcelona’s attack is firing on all cylinders, while Atlético Madrid’s backline looks vulnerable. All three previous meetings this season have featured at least three goals, and the upcoming clash should be no different.
