Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the La Liga match.
Atlético Madrid and Barcelona are locked in a tight title race, with the Catalans currently leading the table and looking to extend their advantage. Despite Atlético Madrid’s recent slip-up against Getafe, they remain just one point off the top.
Atlético Madrid
Defensive frailties have started to emerge for Atlético Madrid, conceding six goals in their last seven matches—nearly a third of their total for the season. Their worst defensive display came in the last round, where they suffered a shocking 1:2 defeat to Getafe, conceding twice after the 88th minute. However, their attack remains potent, with 44 league goals (5th-best in La Liga). At the Wanda Metropolitano, Atlético Madrid remain unbeaten and have found the net in 13 of their 14 home matches. The attacking trio of Antoine Griezmann, Julián Álvarez, and Alexander Sørloth have combined for 28 league goals.
Barcelona
Barcelona boast La Liga’s best attack, with 71 goals this season. Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha Dias have been particularly prolific, netting 34 goals between them, with the Polish striker leading the league’s scoring charts. Barcelona have won six consecutive matches but have struggled defensively away from home, conceding in six of their last seven away fixtures.
Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona Prediction
Both teams come into this match after gruelling Champions League ties, meaning defensive lapses are likely, but their attacking quality should still shine through. Atlético and Barcelona have already exchanged goals in both of their previous meetings this season, with the Madrid side avoiding defeat in both encounters.
