Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2024 Olympics basketball match.
Australia
Australia needs to beat Greece by any score to make it to the quarter-finals. But it won’t be easy, especially with their struggling in defence. The Australians missed 90 points and more in the last three of four Olympic games. There are difficulties on the opponent’s side of the court as well. They lost a close game against Canada (83:93) and scored only 13 points in the final quarter, hitting just 19% of their shots.
Greece
Giannis Antetokounmpo plays amazing, he’s the first player since the 80s to score 27+points in the first two Olympic games. He also runs the court fantastically from his own basket to the opponent’s, leading the offense alone. He’ll be at least as good in the upcoming game. Greece needs to improve their defence, especially against outside shots. Sure, the Spanish team made some unbelievable 3-pointers, but we expect more from Nick Calathes and Thomas Walkup.
Australia - Greece Prediction
Even Greek team still has a chance to finish second in the group. They need to beat Australia by 10+ points, hoping that Canada will beat Spain.
Aging Australian team is getting tired, especially at the end of the games, and they’re struggling against aggressive defence. Greece can tire Australia, so they will make mistakes and it will be easy for Greece to get points on fast breaks. We aren’t sure if Greece will win and move on, but odds on them look good.
