Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Champions League match.
Bayer Leverkusen sit just inside the top half of the section, while PSV Eindhoven are outside the play-off spots after Matchday 1. Both sides badly need a result here — defeat would leave the Dutch side in real trouble.
Bayer Leverkusen
With the Erik ten Hag nightmare now behind them, Bayer Leverkusen look revitalised under Kasper Hjulmand. The Dane has overseen seven points from nine in the Bundesliga and a valuable 2:2 draw against Copenhagen in their Champions League opener. Two of those three league games under Hjulmand also went over the goals line. Defensively, Bayer Leverkusen remain vulnerable without their former stalwarts. In their last league win over St Pauli (2:1), the only goal conceded came from a glaring error by keeper Mark Flekken.
PSV Eindhoven
PSV Eindhoven don’t usually need much help finding the net. In the Eredivisie, they average three goals per game and have scored at least twice in six of their seven fixtures so far. That attacking mindset carried into Europe, though at a cost — they opened with a 1:3 home defeat to Union Berlin. PSV Eindhoven remain committed to attacking football, even if it leaves them open at the back.
Bayer Leverkusen vs PSV Eindhoven Prediction
The Bundesliga and Eredivisie are both synonymous with high-scoring football, and when teams from these leagues meet, fireworks are almost guaranteed. With both sides leaning heavily on attack and suspect defensively, goals look inevitable.
