Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Bundesliga match.
After a crushing 3:0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie, Bayer’s morale may have taken a hit. With the second leg on the horizon, they will aim to conserve energy while securing a win against struggling Werder Bremen.
Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen were completely outclassed by Bayern Munich on Wednesday, registering just 0.33 xG and one shot on target over the 90 minutes. The match became even more difficult after Nordi Mukiele’s red card, forcing them to play the final 30 minutes with 10 men. In the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen have seen under 2.5 goals in three of their last four matches, boasting the third-best defensive record in the league (28 goals conceded), trailing only Mainz (25) and Bayern Munich (20). Importantly, they have not lost at home since August and are unlikely to slip up against a side in poor form.
Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen travel to one of the Bundesliga’s toughest grounds on the back of five consecutive defeats. The 1:2 loss to third-tier Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB-Pokal was a particular low point, as Bremen managed just two shots on target against a vastly inferior opponent. Since the start of 2025, Werder have struggled to create chances away from home, producing just 3.85 xG in four road matches—the second-worst tally in the league, ahead of only Bochum (2.92).
Bayer Leverkusen vs Werder Bremen Prediction
In April 2024, Bayer Leverkusen secured the Bundesliga title with a resounding 5:0 win over Werder. Bremen were more competitive in their home fixture earlier this season (2:2), but with their current attacking struggles and Bayer’s need to conserve energy ahead of the Champions League second leg, expect a low-scoring affair.
