Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Bundesliga match.
The Bundesliga curtain-raiser brings together two heavyweights, but despite both sides starting the season with goals, their current issues suggest a more restrained affair in Munich. Bayern are missing a string of key players, while Leipzig must adapt their style under Ole Werner’s coaching team.
Bayern Munich
In the German Super Cup away to Stuttgart (2:1), Bayern played on the front foot and created more chances (2.38-1.89 in xG). Vincent Kompany immediately introduced new signings Luis Díaz and Jonathan Tah — with the Colombian scoring the winner but otherwise struggling to make an impact. The injury list is severe: Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlović and Alphonso Davies are all sidelined, leaving Bayern short of ball progression. For now, much of the creative burden falls on Michael Olise, who is not yet at peak fitness.
RB Leipzig
Leipzig kicked off their campaign in the DFB-Pokal with a 4:2 win away at fourth-tier Sandhausen. But the scoreline hides early vulnerabilities: the visitors were 0:2 down after 20 minutes before rallying late on. With Benjamin Šeško sold to Manchester United, Loïs Openda is finding life harder up front, often tightly marked even by modest opponents. Xavi Simons, meanwhile, looks set to leave for Chelsea, further weakening their attacking options.
Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig Prediction
Bookmakers may be swayed by the high-scoring clashes between these two last season (5:1 and 3:3), but circumstances are different now. Both teams are far from their best going forward, and Bayern’s absentees in particular could slow the tempo.
