Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the US Open match.
Beatriz Haddad Maia
For Beatriz, the US Open is a continuation of her successful run at the WTA-250 tournament in Cleveland, where she reached the final. However, the highest-ranked opponent she faced there was another Czech player, Kateřina Siniaková (36). In New York, Beatriz has already defeated higher-ranked players Anna Kalinskaya (15) and former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki. The Danish player was competitive, but her tennis skills are no longer enough for victories, as her 2024 performances confirm.
Karolína Muchová
For Karolína, the season effectively began in July after she recovered from a wrist injury sustained at last year's US Open. Her results have been modest — her best achievement being the final at the WTA-250 in Palermo on clay. In the fourth round, Muchová faced a strong opponent in Jasmine Paolini (5) but outplayed the Italian in every aspect. Muchová’s form is clearly returning, although she maintains a match-by-match focus rather than aiming to win the tournament.
Beatriz Haddad Maia - Karolína Muchová Prediction
Two of their three head-to-head matches took place fairly recently. In 2022, in her hometown Ostrava, the Czech triumphed (6:4, 6:4), and nearly a year ago in Cincinnati, she emerged victorious once more (6:7, 6:1, 6:4). Now, despite her unseeded status, Karolína Muchová appears to have the edge. Her crucial asset is experience, and her injury no longer seems to be an issue. So, we believe the Czech should secure a win with at least a slight margin.
