Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Nations League match.
Italy's excellent performances in September and October have allowed the team to lead the most challenging group in League A. Against Belgium away, they can secure an early playoff spot—all they need is not to lose.
Belgium
Belgium's restructuring has impacted their results when faced with top-tier competition. Without Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and Thibaut Courtois, the team only managed one point in October's encounters against Italy (2:2) and France (1:2). Against the World Cup runners-up, Belgium created more chances but lacked in finishing (2.49 vs 1.49 in xG and 7-4 in shots on target). It seems that without a new top generation, Belgium may no longer contend for medals in major tournaments.
Italy
Italy's vibrant play this autumn has helped them recover from their Euro 2024 disappointment, where they were eliminated from the round of 16 by Switzerland (0:2). In all Nations League matches, they have scored at least two goals. Against Israel (4:1), the team demonstrated outstanding creativity (2.77 vs 0.26 in xG and 8-2 in shots on target). The former Zenit and Napoli coach quickly integrated a 3-5-1-1 formation, enabling his players to comfortably operate with a solid defensive block.
Belgium vs Italy Prediction
A month ago at the Olimpico, Belgium benefited from an early red card for Lorenzo Pellegrini—by then, Italy were already two goals up but couldn't hold onto the lead (2:2). In Brussels, the visitors will be ruthless in the opponent's penalty area and are expected to secure at least a point.
