Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Sandown Betfair Tingle Creek Chase (Grade 1, 1m7½f, 4yo+) horse racing event.
Jonbon, victorious in the Shloer Chase, continues to look as promising as ever. Nicky Henderson's superstar has never finished lower than second place, and this trend is expected to hold. Having already claimed victory here last year, the 2/5 odds on bet365 for a repeat performance are predictable and unlikely to drift.
Edwardstone was third in the Shloer Chase but now appears more favourable for the runner-up spot. He finished second to Jonbon in last year's race, and it seems likely that this situation will remain unchanged.
Quilixios kicked off the season with a win at the Barberstown Castle Chase in Naas. While the victory was convincing, his less-than-stellar track record in major competitions suggests caution. He finished eighth at Cheltenham and fifth at Aintree in the Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices' Chase and the Maghull Novices' Chase, respectively.
Boothill came in second in the Shloer Chase behind Jonbon. Last season started well for him with a couple of handicap wins, but he then suffered back-to-back falls and ended the season in fourth place at the Celebration Chase in Sandown (where Edwardstone was third), again trailing Jonbon.
JPR One, following wind surgery, clinched the Haldon Gold Cup Handicap Chase in Exeter in November, outpacing favourite Djelo. Last season, he secured a win in a Novices' Chase (Grade 2) and prior to that, finished third at Sandown in the Henry VIII Novices' Chase, which will take place this Saturday. He’s a capable seven-year-old, and it will be interesting to see how much more he can improve.
