Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Betfred St Leger Stakes (Group 1, 1m6½f, 3yo, no geldings) horse racing event.
Aidan O'Brien is responsible for nearly half of the field in the final British Classic of the season, which he won last year with Continuous. This year, three Ballydoyle horses (all sired by Galileo) are leading the ante-post market.
Illinois is the early favourite. He won the Queen's Vase at Ascot and then finished second twice, first in the Grand Prix de Paris and then in the Great Voltigeur Stakes (the prep race for this Classic), where he lost by a neck to stablemate Los Angeles.
Grosvenor Square began his season outside the Emerald Isle and finished third at Chester. He then raced three times at Curragh, clinching victory on his third attempt in the International Irish St. Leger Trial Stakes, where he dominated the field by 20 lengths.
Jan Brueghel did not race as a two-year-old but has an unbeaten streak of three starts this year, including the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood. All three colts are very intriguing, but our pick is Grosvenor Square, who is offered at 4/1.
You Got To Me is the only filly in the race, and she was supplemented for £50,000. She won the Trial Fillies' Stakes in Britain and then the Oaks in Ireland but was narrowly beaten (less than a length) in the Yorkshire Oaks.
