Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Swansea City sit seventh after five rounds — and that is no accident. The squad have underlined it in the EFL Cup, beating Nottingham Forest (3:2). Now the team will put the newly promoted Birmingham City to the test.
Birmingham City
This is a newcomer to the league with serious ambitions. The club previously competed not only in the Championship but also in the English Premier League in the early 2010s. Now, under American ownership, Birmingham City are striving to climb back up. After the opening rounds, they were among the leaders in fifth place, but two setbacks in their last matches prevented them from consolidating that position — Birmingham City are currently 11th. It is worth noting that in four of their last five matches, the under 2.5 goals bet has landed.
Swansea City
The team climbed the standings week by week to reach seventh place. That has been possible thanks to a solid defence — only four goals conceded. Only in Matchweek 5 did a Swansea game see over 2.5 goals — a 2:2 draw with Hull City. Heavier pressure from Nottingham Forest in the third round of the EFL Cup had them 0:2 down at half-time, but Swansea City produced an impressive comeback after the interval, capped by goals in stoppage time.
Birmingham City vs Swansea City Prediction
We're expecting a tight game and believe Birmingham City can at least avoid defeat. A midweek fixture, despite the emotional lift after the cup win, may take a toll on Swansea City physically, which increases the hosts’ chances of avoiding defeat.
