Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Both Blackburn Rovers and Watford have found it difficult to keep up with the pace set by the promotion contenders, although the former still holds a faint hope of reaching the top six. That position guarantees a place in the play-offs, which will decide the third team to be promoted to the English Premier League.
Blackburn Rovers
At present, Blackburn Rovers are four points adrift, with Middlesbrough and Millwall each just one point ahead. Their chances are objectively slim but still alive—especially considering their current unbeaten streak of four matches. They have finally found a degree of consistency, steadily collecting points. Notably, Blackburn Rovers have won their last three games, including a 4:1 result over promotion rivals Millwall and a narrow 1:0 victory against fourth-placed Sunderland.
Watford
Watford, by contrast, saw their season stall earlier in the campaign and are now no longer in the running for anything higher than ninth place—the position currently occupied by Blackburn Rovers. Watford have lost four consecutive away matches, although all by narrow margins. In the away form standings, they sit just 16th, having picked up points in only 9 of their 22 matches on the road. It’s also worth noting that each of the last five head-to-head meetings between these teams has finished with under 3.5 total goals, including four matches with under 2.5.
Blackburn Rovers vs Watford Prediction
The stronger motivation could give Blackburn Rovers the upper hand. At the same time, we do not expect more than three goals overall, which makes the combination bet particularly attractive.
