Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Cup match.
Blackburn
Blackburn lead in goals scored—and are also leaders overall, sitting in third place. There's a direct correlation here. They haven't scored fewer than two goals per match. In their recent game against Oxford United, they netted precisely two. The newcomer resisted for quite a while, but the team managed to score the winning goal in the 83rd minute, thanks to forward Arnór Sigurdsson. Four shots on target and 0.82 xG were enough for the victory.
Blackpool
The match in Cambridge between the local United and Blackpool was a disappointment for the visitors, as they lost the win after a 4:1 lead. Just over half an hour saw their defence crumble. Both sides conceded one unnecessary goal each, and Blackpool added two more from corners. They will likely rely on free kicks and corners in the League Cup game as well.
Blackburn - Blackpool Prediction
In head-to-head encounters, Blackburn have a significant advantage. They have won 10 of their last 16 matches, including both games in the 2022/23 season. Interestingly, both clubs have played four games since the start of the season, and all featured at least three goals. Considering Blackburn's attacking strength and Blackpool's defensive weaknesses, we’re confident we'll see quite many goals.
