Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Argentine Primera División match.
Boca Juniors, quarter-finalists of the 2025 Apertura and one of the most popular clubs, currently sit below Unión Santa Fe in the standings after the opening round of the Argentine Primera División. However, with just one match played, there is still time to bounce back.
Boca Juniors
In the first round, Boca Juniors were held to a draw by Argentinos Juniors. It was a challenging opener against the second-best team from the Apertura regular season – a side that finished ahead of Boca Juniors. Additionally, the squad has traditionally struggled when playing away from La Bombonera. At home, their primary strength has been defensive organisation: they kept five consecutive clean sheets until Independiente ended that run in the Apertura quarter-finals.
Unión Santa Fe
Unión Santa Fe, however, present a different challenge compared to Independiente. After several mid-table finishes, they started 2025 in underwhelming fashion. Former manager Cristian González was dismissed in April, with Nicolás Vazzoler stepping in as his replacement. Despite being in charge for three months, he has only overseen two matches. One of those came this past Monday – a 1:0 home win over Estudiantes de La Plata. Still, Estudiantes de La Plata have been unimpressive this year, and the win came on familiar ground.
Boca Juniors vs Unión Santa Fe Prediction
Looking at recent meetings between the sides, the last encounter saw Unión Santa Fe hold Boca Juniors to a 1:1 draw at home. However, in their most recent clash at La Bombonera, Boca Juniors claimed a narrow 1:0 win. It wasn’t a commanding display, but it got the job done. We’re backing another routine home victory here.
