Borussia Dortmund are still in the fight for a top-four finish, and after an emphatic win over Sporting (3:0) in the Champions League, they will be full of confidence heading into this Ruhr derby.
Bochum
Bochum’s draw with Holstein Kiel (2:2) did little to help their survival hopes. They led before Myron Boadu’s injury, but ultimately dropped points in yet another disappointing result. Defensively, they remain the worst team in the Bundesliga based on xGA (47.70). With Myron Boadu doubtful, they will struggle to pose a serious attacking threat against a resurgent Borussia Dortmund side.
Borussia Dortmund
The departure of Nuri Şahin in late January seems to have had a positive impact on the squad. Despite a loss to Stuttgart (1:2), they dominated in terms of xG (1.28 vs 0.35). Against Sporting, Dortmund put on a clinical second-half display, scoring three goals while limiting their opponents to just 0.19 xG. Serhou Guirassy continues to impress, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his last six matches. His presence, combined with Borussia Dortmund’s overall attacking depth, should prove too much for Bochum’s fragile defence.
Bochum vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction
Borussia Dortmund have won their last two meetings against Bochum (3:1, 4:2) and will likely control this match as well. With their attacking firepower and Bochum’s defensive frailties, anything other than a win for Borussia Dortmund would be a major surprise.
