Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Bundesliga match.
Before the previous round, it seemed Bochum’s resurgence might be enough to pull them out of the relegation zone, but a 0:3 thrashing against Borussia Mönchengladbach halted their momentum. At home against Freiburg, the Bundesliga strugglers are likely to struggle with finishing, as the visitors will prioritise a defensive approach.
Bochum
Bochum have had a tough start to 2025, conceding eight goals in four matches while allowing 8.19 xGA—only three Bundesliga teams have defended worse in this period. In their defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bochum were missing key midfielder Matus Bero (suspension), but even his return is unlikely to compensate for the glaring quality gap between them and mid-table sides. Furthermore, Bochum’s home record is among the worst in the league, with only two wins from nine matches, tied for the lowest tally in the division.
Freiburg
Freiburg had a miserable January, suffering three consecutive league defeats against Eintracht Frankfurt (1:4), Stuttgart (0:4), and Bayern Munich (1:2). However, their struggles have come against top teams, and they remain a much stronger side than Bochum. Despite recent losses, Freiburg’s key attackers remain a threat. Vincenzo Grifo (5+7) and Ritsu Doan (6+4) are both among the Bundesliga top 30 scorers.
Bochum vs Freiburg Prediction
Freiburg have won six consecutive matches against Bochum, including a 2:1 victory earlier this season. The visitors have struggled against strong opposition, but against a relegation-threatened side, they should have the edge in quality and efficiency.
