Adam Williams presents his prediction for the UFC 311 fight.
Bogdan Guskov
Bogdan will look to quickly close the distance, attacking the body and then stepping out to arm's length. When Billy Elekana misses another kick, Guskov will charge in with three destructive hooks or a sharp uppercut. He will be poised to stop a takedown attempt, moving under Elekana’s lead hand to surprise him with a side strike. While defending against a leg takedown, Bogdan might take Elekana down to the canvas himself for a ground-and-pound finish. Guskov will start the second round with single overhead punches from various angles. Over time, he will add more strikes to his combinations, aiming to knock out his opponent by the middle of the round.
Billy Elekana
Billy will concede the centre of the octagon to Bogdan and work defensively, studying his opponent's tactics. Elekana will try to evade attacks and retaliate with rare, focused crosses. Later, the American might start throwing counters or go on the offensive with heavy hooks. Consistent mid kicks and low kicks will help him manage Guskov’s onslaught and score points. He will attempt to confuse Bogdan and ultimately counter with an accurate check hook. If Billy feels he cannot out-strike his opponent, he'll initiate a clinch against the cage. After attacking Bogdan’s body with knees, Elekana will return to mid-range exchanges and launch powerful high kicks.
Betting Odds
The bookmakers favour Bogdan, who is faster and more powerful than the less agile American. The odds on Guskov's victory are 1.28. Billy comes in on a week's notice, while Guskov has completed a full camp and is eager to break into the top ranks. Bets on Elekana’s victory can be placed at odds of 3.25.
Bogdan Guskov vs Billy Elekana Prediction
Elekana will attempt to disrupt Guskov with precise strikes and will not shy away from grappling against the cage to score points. Bogdan will rely on his speed advantage, moving around and stinging his opponent with solitary punches. It will be extremely challenging for Billy to drag the fight to a decision against such a mobile adversary. The American may try to send him to the canvas with a counter punch, but he's unlikely to have enough knockout power for it. Guskov’s boxing combinations will be far more dangerous and varied, so it's doubtful the fight will last beyond the second round.
