Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Serie A match.
Saturday’s Serie A programme begins in Bologna, where Bologna host Genoa. Head coaches Vincenzo Italiano and Alberto Gilardino meet on the touchline. A fixture that appears modest on paper could turn into a lively contest.
Bologna
In Matchday 3, Bologna were outclassed by AC Milan’s organised defence (0:1). They failed to register a shot on target and posted just 0.17 xG. However, the squad has been hit hard by injuries. The treatment room currently includes Tommaso Pobega, Ibrahim Sulemana, Ciro Immobile and Nicolò Casale, all of whom would immediately strengthen the team.
Genoa
By contrast, Genoa earned a draw against a solid Como side (1:1) with a 92nd-minute equaliser. On balance, they looked the stronger team (2.34-1.83 in xG) and probably merited all three points. Primary playmaker Ruslan Malinovskyi has returned to fitness and is ready to start. The squad’s improvement is closely tied to his return.
Bologna vs Genoa Prediction
The hosts are seen as favourites, yet the visitors have every chance to cause an upset. Even if they leave without points, they are unlikely to sit in a low block. Genoa should at least score once.
