Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Bundesliga match.
Borussia Mönchengladbach
Back in mid-August, Borussia M'gladbach showed their inconsistencies in the cup tie against Delmenhorst (3:2), an Oberliga side who twice came from behind to level against Borussia. They have been missing the injured Tim Kleindienst, but even without him they’ve racked up 2.62 xG across 180 Bundesliga minutes. Against Hamburg (0:0) and Stuttgart (0:1), the quality of the opposition prevented them from fully opening up, but after the international break Borussia M'gladbach are expected to return to their usual aggressive approach in the final third.
Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen, meanwhile, also struggled in the cup, crashing out in the first round to second-tier Arminia Bielefeld (0:1). In the league, they’ve been involved in open battles with Eintracht Frankfurt (1:3) and Bayer Leverkusen (3:3), conceding a total of seven goals and allowing 5.14 xGA — the joint-worst defensive record alongside Freiburg. That said, Werder Bremen showed fight, salvaging a draw with the vice-champions by scoring twice despite being down to ten men.
Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Werder Bremen Prediction
Head-to-head encounters between Borussia M'gladbach and Werder Bremen rarely disappoint. Since May 2021, all seven of their clashes have gone over 2.5 goals. Expect the same again as they look to close the round in style.
