Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NHL match.
The Calgary Flames continue their three-game road trip through the East. After defeating the Montreal Canadiens (3:2 OT), the Flames face another Original Six club—the Boston Bruins. Earlier in the week, they were shut out on the road in Toronto (0:4).
Boston Bruins
Shutting down the Bruins this season isn't the most daunting task. Over the past month, three clubs have managed to do it. At even strength, the Bruins offer little threat: they score fewer than two goals (1.86) per hour of play, ranking fifth from last in this measure. When one of the league's top snipers, David Pastrnak, has only one even-strength goal by early November, it's hard to deny the team is in trouble.
Calgary Flames
The Flames might not have enough firepower to match the giants, but they still pick up points. Their dominant display against the Montreal Canadiens was undeniable: outshooting them 33-18 and controlling 57% of expected goals at even strength. The opposition was only marginally luckier in special teams battles. 21-year-old winger Matt Coronato scored twice this season, earning a spot in the top-six.
Boston Bruins vs Calgary Flames Prediction
Remarkably, the betting line for last season's meeting at TD Garden was nearly identical to the current one. While the rest of the league has progressed, the Boston Bruins have not only stayed put but regressed. We'll back the Calgary Flames to win, considering overtime and shootouts.
