Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NBA match.
Despite the surprising outcome of Game 1, expectations haven’t changed significantly – the Boston Celtics remain strong favorites. The New York Knicks secured a crucial road win (108:105 OT), having trailed by 20 points in the third quarter. That contest, however, offered plenty of insights that may prove decisive moving forward.
Boston Celtics
The Celtics’ offensive execution warrants scrutiny. The team squandered a significant advantage, attempting 20 field goals in the third quarter — 19 of which came from beyond the arc. In total, the hosts launched 60 three-point shots, setting an all-time NBA Playoffs record. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined to convert just 5 of 25 three-point attempts. There is little doubt that the coaching staff will implement adjustments ahead of Game 2 — either by reducing the trio’s perimeter shooting volume or by refining the quality of those shots. After all, throughout the regular season, the defending champions were far more efficient against the New York Knicks, averaging 21 successful three-pointers per game.
New York Knicks
The Knicks also have room to grow offensively. They attacked the paint aggressively, drawing plenty of shooting fouls, but converted only 17 of 31 from the free-throw line (54.8%). More can also be expected from Mikal Bridges. While he nailed a crucial corner three late in the game, he managed just 3 of 13 from the field over 50-plus minutes. Mikal Bridges is a reliable shooter, boasting a career playoff field goal percentage of 47.2%, and should bounce back given his track record.
Boston Celtics vs New York Knicks Prediction
Both sides possess offensive upside heading into Game 2. Moreover, the Boston Celtics anticipate the return of Kristaps Porziņģis, whose presence will aid in stretching the defence and exploiting the paint. Historically, Total Over has landed in three of the last four meetings during the regular season. We’re backing a high-scoring contest.
