Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Brazilian Serie A match.
Botafogo
Since returning from the Club World Cup, Botafogo have played three matches and collected seven points. Their only slip-up came in a goalless draw against Vitória, where, despite generating 1.83 xG, they failed to score. However, the squad’s strength lies not in attack but in defence. Botafogo currently boast the second-best defensive record in the league, having conceded just seven goals in 14 matches.
Corinthians Paulista
Corinthians Paulista are far from their best at the moment. They have picked up only one win in their last five outings, which is hardly surprising given the considerable number of absentees. Their key forward Yuri Alberto and central midfielder Maycon Andrade are both currently sidelined with injuries. In addition, first-choice players Rodrigo Garro and José Martínez are suspended due to yellow card accumulation and will miss the clash against Botafogo.
Botafogo vs Corinthians Paulista Prediction
We believe the outcome of this fixture is clear. The hosts are in excellent form and are racking up points with consistency. The significant absences in the visiting squad have left Corinthians Paulista with virtually no chance of posing a threat in the final third, and their defence is unlikely to withstand the pressure from the opposition.
