Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Colombian Primera A match.
Independiente Medellín, runners-up in the recent Apertura, faltered in their opening fixture. Boyacá Chicó also failed to secure three points. Both sides currently hover just outside the playoff positions.
Boyacá Chicó
Boyacá Chicó have not been serious contenders for a playoff berth in the past two years. Their last qualification came in the Apertura 2023. On that occasion, the squad shared a group with Medellín and managed to finish above them, thanks to a 1:0 home win and a goalless draw away. This season, they have found it difficult to overcome stronger opposition. Towards the end of the regular Apertura campaign, Boyacá Chicó held eventual champions Santa Fe to a goalless draw but then fell 2:4 to Millonarios. In the first round of the Clausura, they let a lead slip against Copa Libertadores side Atlético Bucaramanga, settling for a 1:1 draw.
Independiente Medellín
After a slow start, Independiente Medellín found their rhythm and advanced to the final of the following Clausura, narrowly losing to Atlético Junior in a penalty shootout. Since the semi-final phase of the playoffs began, they have suffered just one defeat in nine matches — the decisive second leg of the final against Santa Fe, which ended 1:2. In six of those games, the Total Under 2.5 was recorded.
Boyacá Chicó vs Independiente Medellín Prediction
Boyacá Chicó were comprehensively beaten in each of their last three meetings with Independiente Medellín, but that streak is unlikely to continue. Both teams have remained active — Boyacá Chicó through Cup fixtures, and Independiente Medellín with only a short rest — but a two-week break is no substitute for a full pre-season. Nevertheless, Independiente Medellín are expected to come away with the victory here.
