Adam Williams presents his prediction for the UFC Fight Night 246 fight.
Brandon Moreno
Moreno will employ a double jab and sudden body hooks. By constantly changing his attack levels, he will slow down Albazi and start breaking him down with low kicks and long crosses. Brandon will circle around Amir, hitting him with single punches while shifting. Using middle kicks and lateral moves, the Mexican will force Albazi to retreat and also gain a points advantage. If Amir finds himself against the cage, Brandon will unleash a lightning-fast combination to the head. It's unlikely that Moreno will initiate a takedown first, but he will be ready to transition the opponent to the ground while defending a leg entry. Brandon will focus on ground-and-pound, but if the grappling exchanges become prolonged, he will prefer to return the fight to stand-up.
Amir Albazi
Initially, Amir will absorb strikes and study Brandon's attacks. Albazi will let the Mexican take the centre while throwing a few single straights to the head and body. Once Amir finds the right timing for counterattacks, he will use rapid one-twos and sharp front kicks. Albazi will look to take Moreno's back against the cage and on the ground. He will aim for a rear-naked choke as quickly as possible, while also trying an armbar submission.
Betting Odds
The bookmakers see the former champion's chances as significantly higher. He's difficult to take down, and in stand-up, he's given a strong fight to all opponents, losing only by split decisions recently. The odds for a Moreno victory are 13/20.
Amir has performed excellently in the UFC, showcasing high-level skills, but Brandon is also a well-rounded fighter and more experienced. Betting on an Albazi victory can be done at odds of 7/5.
Brandon Moreno vs Amir Albazi Prediction
Moreno will employ more combinations and throw unexpected kicks, while Albazi will attempt to outstrike him in counterattacks. The Mexican has slightly better odds of gaining a points advantage in stand-up due to his more chaotic and dynamic style, along with a reach advantage. A knockout in this fight is tough to envision, given both fighters' solid defence and resilience. Amir could take the fight if he finds a submission or controls his opponent on the ground for extended periods. Nevertheless, due to his striking and tactical advantage, Moreno is our favourite in this fight.
