Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Volleyball Nations League match.
Both national squads have already secured their spots in the quarter-finals, but motivation remains high. Brazil are aiming to finish top in order to secure the most favourable opponent, while Japan, playing at home, are looking to improve their seeding.
Brazil
Brazil are comfortably leading the overall standings, with just one defeat — to Cuba in the second round. In the remaining fixtures, the team has claimed eight victories, four of which came in straight sets (3:0). Their record includes wins over Poland, Italy, Slovenia and Argentina — all of whom are in the top 10 of the world rankings. Brazil also boast a dominant head-to-head record against Japan, having won 19 of their 20 meetings.
Japan
Japan have already booked their place in the knockout round but still aim to deliver an entertaining performance during their home leg. However, recent performances have raised questions. Their wins against Germany and Argentina were hard-fought, with the team dropping three sets across those two matches and winning by a maximum margin of just eight points. Japan's group stage campaign has also included notable setbacks, including defeats to Ukraine and Bulgaria — teams outside the top 10 of the world rankings.
Brazil vs Japan Prediction
Brazil are in excellent form and firmly in the hunt for top spot. While Japan have had a solid group stage overall, their recent displays have lacked consistency. We expect another victory for Brazil.
