Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
The final game of the 19th Premier League round and the first of 2025 is set to be a London derby. Both clubs played out minimalist matches on Boxing Day, each keeping a clean sheet. Arsenal, unlike Brentford, managed to secure a win. Will the opponents continue to be frugal with goals on the first day of the New Year?
Brentford
Brentford can count their goalless draw with Brighton as a success. They played at home and endured 24 shots, with goalkeeper Mark Flekken saving seven on target. Brentford themselves managed eight shots, three on target. A draw away can be considered an achievement, but at home, it feels like a letdown, not to mention a defeat. They have only lost once in nine matches at home—against Nottingham Forest (0:2). Currently, Nottingham Forest are as dangerous as Arsenal, also sitting in the Champions League qualifying spots.
Arsenal
Arsenal edged past Ipswich Town, but it was a narrow 1:0 win. They clearly lacked creativity, as Bukayo Saka was absent. He plays a pivotal role in Arsenal’s attack, with their play heavily relying on him. Against Crystal Palace, he was involved in the first two goals, which helped lay the foundation for their success (5:1).
Brentford vs Arsenal Prediction
Brentford score too much at home (26 in 9 games) to simply hand victory to the visitors. Arsenal might be relieved with a draw, even though the attacking prowess of the visitors is superior. We recommend betting on a positive handicap.
