Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Tottenham Hotspur will come into this a touch jaded but satisfied after winning their opening fixture in the Champions League on Tuesday. Brighton & Hove Albion are without European football this season, so the squad have been able to prepare methodically for this match all week.
Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton need to focus on avoiding an early-season slump. The team have only four points from four matches. The start is weaker than last season: at the same stage they were sixth, and after three matches even third. Fabian Hürzeler now has to find fresh resources and reshape the attack without the departed João Pedro Junqueira de Jesus. Home form has been better than away. All four points have come at home, including a 2:1 victory over Manchester City.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur came through a good test at the start of the group stage of the Champions League. The team beat a direct rival, Villarreal CF, 1:0 thanks to an own goal by the opposition goalkeeper inside the fourth minute. Both sides were underwhelming in attack. They created a lot of chances but were extremely wasteful in front of goal — only one of their 19 shots was on target, and the total xG barely exceeded 1.0 (0.58-0.53). That approach worked there, but not against AFC Bournemouth in the third round: a 0:1 defeat with 0.19 xG for Tottenham Hotspur and five efforts, only one on target.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction
Last season, Brighton beat Tottenham Hotspur (3:2 and 4:1), and the manager has remained in post. That, along with Tottenham Hotspur’s taxing UEFA Champions League fixture, points us towards Brighton Draw No Bet.
