Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
The Premier League returns after nearly a two-week break, with Brighton and Chelsea kicking off Matchday 25. This is already their second meeting within a week, having faced off in the FA Cup last weekend at the Amex Stadium. On that occasion, Brighton claimed a victory (2:1). Can they do it again?
Brighton
In that FA Cup encounter, Chelsea dominated possession and created more chances, yet their only goal came from a poor error by goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, officially recorded as an own goal. Brighton’s two strikes, however, were the result of precise teamwork and individual brilliance—a well-executed header by Georginio Rutter and a moment of skill from Kaoru Mitoma. At best, Chelsea deserved a draw, but no more than that.
Chelsea
What else can be expected from a team that has failed to win any of their last five Premier League away matches and struggles to score regularly? Chelsea are still clinging to fourth place, but largely thanks to their strong early-season form, when Enzo Maresca’s tactics were widely praised. Chelsea have relied heavily on Cole Palmer, who has 14 goals and 6 assists in the league. Even in last weekend’s defeat, it was his shot that led to Bart Verbruggen’s own goal. But where is the rest of the team? If they continue to play without intensity, they stand little chance of beating a well-organised Brighton side.
Brighton vs Chelsea Prediction
Considering Brighton’s recent win, Chelsea’s poor away form, and their overall struggles in recent months, it is hard to back the visitors. A double chance on the home side looks like the safest option.
