Adam Williams presents his prediction for the English Premiership rugby match.
In the opening round, Bristol Bears had a much easier opponent than Gloucester Rugby, who had to battle with regular playoff contenders Saracens. Will the home crowd help the Bears secure a victory?
Bristol Bears
As expected, Bristol Bears comfortably defeated Newcastle Falcons (24:3), who did not win a single match last season. However, at halftime, the gap was just two points (5:3). The main events unfolded in the second half, with Max Malins scoring twice. Pat Lam has hardly changed the lineup for the game against Gloucester. Only Max Lahiff (88) will be replaced by the noticeably younger George Kloska (44) at tighthead prop. He has half the games but seemingly more stamina than the 34-year-old. Additionally, Steven Luatua will play his 132nd match for the Bears, despite concerns over a minor injury.
Gloucester Rugby
In the first round, Gloucester Rugby played against Saracens, whose leaders had left, yet the visitors almost held a clean sheet by halftime. It was only in injury time of the first half that lock Freddie Thomas scored Gloucester’s first try (7:17).
The hosts made more mistakes. Saracens’ try shortly after the break came from their sloppiness following the restart. The score could have been less close (26:35), especially as the gap was 23 points 10 minutes before the end (12:35). However, Gloucester managed to narrow it and secure a bonus point try within the last six minutes.
It is worth noting that Kirill Gotovtsev, Russia's primary international, will replace the 20-year-old Afolabi Fasogbon, who made his Premiership debut for Gloucester last match, at tighthead prop.
Bristol Bears vs Gloucester Rugby Prediction
In their last three encounters, including two home games, Bristol Bears emerged victorious. The margin was at least nine points. We’re sure that they will win again, as they are objectively stronger.
