Adam Williams presents his prediction for the English Premiership rugby match.
The Bears have muscled their way to the top of the league table after four rounds. However, it was the Saracens who made way for them, and they could easily reclaim their position. Saturday's clash in Bristol will be crucial for both sides.
Bristol Bears
Bristol Bears’ ascent to the summit was hard-earned. In the previous round, they had to mount a remarkable comeback against Exeter Chiefs, rallying from 12:32 down with just 18 minutes remaining, and they managed it. A 10-minute sin-bin for the opposition in the 65th minute proved pivotal, allowing the Bears to score three tries with conversions during this period, followed by another try soon after. The final scoreline of 40:35 commands respect.
Saracens
However, the Saracens are a different level of opponent compared to Exeter Chiefs. The London club were playoff contenders last season and led the league until the fourth round. It seemed as though they would beat Harlequins, especially since their unbeaten streak in the capital derby had lasted 1,722 days. Nonetheless, a defeat to Harlequins ensued (10:17). An early yellow card for the opposition and 63% territorial possession couldn’t prevent Saracens' downfall, plagued by errors in the ruck (16 turnovers to 10). They only salvaged a losing bonus point thanks to a penalty from Alex Lozowski.
Bristol Bears vs Saracens Prediction
Despite the fourth-round defeat and the Bears' leadership, Saracens are still the favourites. They have gone six matches unbeaten against the Bears, with their last loss to them back in August 2020 (12:16). Saracens will secure victory on the road.
