Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Bristol City
Bristol City already have three matches in which they have scored three or more goals, so their tally of 12 is the division’s second-highest for goals scored. On points, the team are third in the standings. This season they have avoided the Matchday 4 and Matchday 5 slump that, in 2024, brought two heavy 0:3 defeats. Bristol City are getting results through an aggressive high press in the opposition half, and many of their goals have come from those regains.
Oxford United
By contrast, Oxford United have opened this campaign in the opposite fashion. In 2024/25, as newcomers, opponents did not have time to adjust to them, and after five matches they climbed to seventh in the standings. The team suffered defeats then, but they also collected three wins. Now Oxford United have not won a single match and have only two points, which has dropped them into the relegation zone. In Matchday 5, the team failed to hold on to a one-goal lead against Leicester City, even though they played with a man advantage (2:2). It was their second successive 2:2, after the same scoreline against Coventry City.
Bristol City vs Oxford United Prediction
We expect plenty of goals. Most of them should find the back of the net against the visitors, so we are taking a combo bet on Bristol City to win and over 2.5 goals.
