Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NHL match.
The Buffalo Sabres' new losing streak has now stretched to three games. During this time, they have managed to score only three goals, all in a single game against the Vancouver Canucks (3:4 OT). The Colorado Avalanche are visiting and can finally catch a break after a tough schedule.
Buffalo Sabres
Much like last season, the Buffalo Sabres are inconsistent, alternating between successful and disastrous runs. Their top forward, Tage Thompson (11+7), has returned, but with little effect. Over three games, he has recorded zero points and a (-4) in his plus-minus. Without Thompson's active contribution, the hosts have to win through low-scoring matches. This is not always feasible, considering their average goals against (3.04) and save percentage (89.3%) do not even rank in the top 10.
Colorado Avalanche
The second half of November was excessively packed for the Colorado Avalanche. They played with Washington Capitals twice, travelled to Florida, and faced title contenders the Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, and Edmonton Oilers. In this context, four wins from eight games is a decent outcome. The Buffalo Sabres are an opponent of a slightly different level. Against them, the Avalanche's chronic issues will be less noticeable: top forwards Nathan MacKinnon (7+29) and Mikko Rantanen (15+19) will likely win their individual battles by a large margin, and mistakes on the back end won't be as costly.
Buffalo Sabres vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction
The Colorado Avalanche dominate in head-to-head matchups — they have won eight of the last ten games, scoring four or more goals in six of those matches. While another goal fest isn't guaranteed this time, the Avalanche are expected to secure a win in regulation.
