Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the NHL regular season match.
The Buffalo Sabres and the Florida Panthers face off for the second time this season. The Sabres took the first encounter (5:2). Since then, the Panthers have been undefeated on the road, securing four consecutive victories in regulation. Will they avenge their earlier loss?
Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres have been in impressive form in the latter half of October, with a highly productive attack. The hosts have scored at least four goals in six straight games. Their top line has been playing well, especially after the return of John-Jason Peterka. The German forward has amassed six points in five matches. His cooperation with Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, and Rasmus Dahlin in the offensive zone can convert even the most innocuous play into a goal, as seen multiple times in their recent against the Detroit Red Wings (5:2). Collectively, they have already racked up 32 points.
Florida Panthers
The Florida Panthers have seen a noticeable dip in squad depth since their championship run. However, the grit and intensity instilled by head coach Paul Maurice remain unchanged. Over the weekend, the Panthers mounted an impressive comeback from a 0:3 loss on the road against the New York Islanders (6:3). It was a display of brute strength, at times crossing the line, but they achieved their goal. Still, their defence was not entirely solid, as the opposition frequently caught them short-handed during the comeback. It's easy to envision a scenario where the likes of Thompson, Tuch, and Dahlin capitalise on their counterattack opportunities with more success.
Buffalo Sabres vs Florida Panthers Prediction
The Florida Panthers have been involved in many up-and-down games this season, often resulting in high-scoring affairs. Their games average 6.4 goals, while Sabres' matchups feature even more, at 6.7. Therefore, the set total seems somewhat underestimated. We're betting on the total over.
