Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Serie A match.
The two sides sit in the lower half of the table, with Cagliari trailing Genoa by six points. The hosts are in desperate need of points to avoid slipping into the relegation zone, but Genoa have proven to be a tough opponent for mid-table sides.
Cagliari
Cagliari have managed just one win in their last six Serie A matches, failing to score in four of those games. Their attacking woes are evident—despite generating 36.52 xG, they have scored only 27 goals. This conversion rate is the second worst in Serie A, behind only AC Milan. Home form hasn’t been much better. Cagliari have lost 7 of their 14 matches at Unipol Domus, with only Verona (8) and Monza (9) recording more home defeats.
Genoa
Since November, Genoa have amassed 25 points in 17 matches, the best return among non-European contenders (10th place). In the last month, they have suffered only one defeat, a narrow 0:1 loss to league leaders Inter Milan. Their ability to grind out results was evident last week against Empoli (1:1), where they rescued a draw from a corner kick.
Cagliari vs Genoa Prediction
Since February 2020, Cagliari have only managed one win in 10 head-to-head matches against Genoa. In their two matches in 2024, they conceded a total of five goals against Genoa (0:3 and 2:2). With Cagliari struggling for goals and Genoa proving resilient in tight matches, the visitors have a strong chance of securing at least a point.
